Man Armed with Scissors Robs AM/PM on Spring Street in La Mesa

The robber was described as black, in his mid-40s, between 5 feet 5 and 5 feet 7, with a medium build. He wore a black shirt with the sleeves cut off and light-color pants, police said.

A man armed with a pair of scissors robbed a gas station convenience store in La Mesa early Monday but dropped at least some of the loot while fleeing, police said.

The robbery at the at 4925 Spring St. was reported at 1:46 a.m., according to a La Mesa police statement.

The man demanded cash and the clerk refused, then the man pulled out the scissors and walked around a sales counter to retrieve a metal cash box, police said. The man fled with the cash box, which was found nearby on the ground a short time later.

According to police, the box had been pried open, and cash littered the ground around it. The scissors used in the robbery were also found nearby, police said.
