La Mesa and El Cajon led the charge for donations Tuesday for the 13th annual Firefighter Boot Drive, raising approximately $12,000 and $10,500, respectively.
The drive, which is in its 13th year, benefits the Burn Institute, a nonprofit health agency dedicated to reducing the number of burn injuries and deaths in San Diego, Imperial, Riverside and San Bernardino counties.
According to Sonny Saghera, public information officer for Heartland Fire & Rescue, with the $5,600 raised in Lemon Grove, the approximate total for money raised across Heartland territories was $28,000, all of which will be donated to the Burn Institute.
