La Mesa Police Travel to Arizona to Honor Fallen Firefighters

They are part of large contingent of local officers and firefighters who traveled to Arizona to honor the 19 who died.

Local law enforcement officials, including officers from the La Mesa Police Department and deputies from the San Diego County Sheriffs Department, were part of a memorial service for the 19 firefighters who died in Arizona last month.

Two officers from La Mesa and two from the sheriff's department made the trip to Prescott, Ariz. Tuesday to be part of the ceremony, according to 10News.com. Members of the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department and the San Diego Police Department also attended.

Vice President Joe Biden was also part of the memorial. The firefighters died when they were overrun by flames while fighting the Yarnall fire.

One of the dead, Billy Warneke, a former Marine, had served at Camp Pendleton and was brother to a Navy SEAL.
