La Mesa Police hit the streets Monday specifically looking for speeders, writing 29 tickets in a six-hour period, including one for driving 81 mph on a street with a posted speed limit of 35 mph, according to police.
The Traffic Safety Enforcement Program operation was intended to get the message out to drivers that speeding and other violations can result in a citation.
Along with the 29 speeding tickets, officers issued one citation for driving on a suspended license and four verbal warnings for lesser violations, according to police.
Monday’s operation was funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. It was the third one in La Mesa, and police said motorists should expect more in the future.
Think that's fair? Think it's good for our town? Ya, right! Folks, this kind of BS legalism is entirely without justification. It is wrong, plain and simple, and serves no other purpose than to line public coffers and allow the city to show that it's fulfilling the terms of the ticket writing grant it recently received from the state. Shame on them.
