La Mesa Police Target Speeding Drivers During Enforcement Program

Monday was a bad time to speed on the streets of La Mesa.

La Mesa Police hit the streets Monday specifically looking for speeders, writing 29 tickets in a six-hour period, including one for driving 81 mph on a street with a posted speed limit of 35 mph, according to police.

The Traffic Safety Enforcement Program operation was intended to get the message out to drivers that speeding and other violations can result in a citation.

Along with the 29 speeding tickets, officers issued one citation for driving on a suspended license and four verbal warnings for lesser violations, according to police.

Monday’s operation was funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. It was the third one in La Mesa, and police said motorists should expect more in the future.

29 speeding tickets and 42 tickets for distracted driving= motorcyclist hits wall at 50mph on I8 west on ramp off Lake Murray Blvd and it takes over ten minutes for even one ambulance to come and 13-14 minutes for even one police car. I work at the shell station and saw the whole thing MOnday. Seems like a misuse of taxpayer dollars:(

I'm glad LMPD is out there writing tickets. It makes our streets safer. Unfortunate situation you describe, but wouldn't I8 on-ramp, off-ramp be CHP?

But, unfortunately, as I pointed out at a recent council meeting, many of the things people are being cited for amount to only the most minute, technical "violations" of the law. Example: you pull-up to the stop sign and "stop." But are your wheels moving at all, creeping ever so slightly--barely visibly--at all? Doesn't matter. Wham!--before you can say Sh*t!--you've been dealt a very expensive ($200.00 + --) ticket. I've watched 'em do it over and over and over.
Think that's fair? Think it's good for our town? Ya, right! Folks, this kind of BS legalism is entirely without justification. It is wrong, plain and simple, and serves no other purpose than to line public coffers and allow the city to show that it's fulfilling the terms of the ticket writing grant it recently received from the state. Shame on them.

I'm sorry Craig but STOP means STOP, not to yield. I observe daily way too many motorists rolling through STOP signs. This is an unsafe practice that places not only other vehicles in harms way but also pedestrians who are trying to walk through an intersection. I would like to see more police enforcement of these traffic violations. These may be "minor" infractions but they are writen laws for good reasons. If it costs someone a couple of hundred dollars so be it; would you rather pay for a hospital visit or God forbid a possible death?

If it saves just one life it's worth it even if that means we won't have the manpower to do other things that will save more lives.

Let's face it, La Mesa is a nice community because of our police department. Just from the trolley alone La Mesa could be in bad condition, but our polce force is visible and that keeps a certain element at bay.

It was the first of its kind to supply full daily news broadcasts. The company's 24-hour coverageRead More became an immediate success and helped to launch their company from a mainly US-based platform to a world-wide sensation. It was also the first company in the US to firmly provide news coverage.Being one of the most popular sources for news in all of US history. has now gone online, and is one of the top news sites on the internet, available to subscribers world wide instantly through a web browser. While most of these organizations still report quality news, the internet has spawned a number of sites that comment more than report current news. Other sites have emerged to consolidate the top news. People should do some research before relying too much on a single service.

I heard that the landlord is using that property as a loss and does not care about renters. LooksRead More to me like it could be true. I also heard that a group from Mt Helix is trying to clean up Casa De Oro. Does anyone know for sure?
