La Mesa PD Spent the Fourth Looking for Drunken Drivers

A saturation patrol on the holiday resulted in one alcohol-related citation.

The La Mesa Police Department conducted a seven-hour DUI saturation patrol on the Fourth of July, patrolling the streets looking for impaired drivers, according to the department.

During the operation, 29 drivers were stopped, with six being further evaluated for driving under the influence, according to La Mesa police. A driver was cited for being under the age of 21 with alcohol in their system, three other traffic citations were issued and two vehicles were impounded for driver’s license violations, according to a police report. No DUI arrests were reported.

The saturation patrol was funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
