A 28-year-old apparently suicidal man took a knife to himself and to both his 50-year-old mother and 35-year-old girlfriend in Spring Valley early Tuesday, leaving the younger woman with potentially life- threatening injuries, authorities said.
Deputies received a report about a man with a knife wanting to hurt himself in an apartment in the 1600 block of Canyon Road about 12:30 a.m., according to San Diego County sheriff's Sgt. Victor Rivera.
While en route, deputies learned the man, his mother and girlfriend were all bleeding.
Deputies arrived and took the man into custody, Rivera said, noting the man had cuts to both his wrists.
The man's mother had a cut to her head and the man's girlfriend was stabbed twice, the sergeant said.
All three were taken to an area hospital for treatment, Rivera said.
"The younger female victim received wounds that could be life- threatening," he said.
There's no word yet from the sheriff's department regarding what charges the knife-wielding man could face.
