Jury Considers Fate of La Mesa Man Accused in 2011 Killing

Demetrius Sissac, 21, is accused in the shooting death of cabbie Jalaludin Hamrah, 39, in Lemon Grove.

Jurors are considering the fate of Demetrius Sissac, who is standing trial in the case of a cab driver who was shot and killed nearly two years ago in Lemon Grove.

Sissac, 21, has been charged with first-degree murder in the case. Closing arguments ended Wednesday and the jury at the El Cajon Courthouse has been deliberating for a day, according to the District Attorney's Office.

Sissac, of La Mesa, is accused of shooting Jalaludin Hamrah, 39, an immigrant from Afghanistan. Authorities found Hamrah suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper chest after his taxi crashed in the 3400 block of Main Street on Oct. 30, 2011.

Prosecutors have not established a motive for the killing, according to City News Service. Sissac was on probation for auto theft at the time of his arrest, three days after the shooting.

He faces life without the possibility of parole if convicted in Hamrah's death.
