Jewelry Store Robbery in Rancho San Diego

The thieves, who appeared to be in their late teens, entered Del Rancho Jewelers in the 3600 block of Avocado Boulevard.

A youthful robber armed with a pistol threatened the owner of a Rancho San Diego jewelry store and several customers Thursday while a second young man broke into display cases at the business and stole merchandise.

The thieves, who appeared to be in their late teens, entered in the 3600 block of Avocado Boulevard in the Rancho San Diego Village retail plaza, and confronted the victims about 2:30 p.m., sheriff's Sgt. Brian Nevins said.

One of the bandits pointed a black handgun at the shop proprietor and the customers while the other smashed the glass tops of jewelry displays and grabbed valuables.

The robbers fled to a waiting white car with an undetermined amount of merchandise and were driven out of the area by another accomplice, Nevins said.

A sign on the front door of the store on Friday stated that they are closed for cleanup, adding that the store is insured, and that no customer jewelry was taken.
