Gunmen Sought in Robbery of Motel 6—Second Holdup There in 4 Months

Two men in their 20s were last seen running east on Alvarado Road sometime after 10 p.m.

Two men armed with handguns robbed a Motel 6 on Alvarado Road a little after 10 p.m. Wednesday, and fled east on the road after demanding money from a clerk, authorities said.

It was at least the second robbery of the motel at 7621 Alvarado Rd. in four months. On June 27, a lone gunman wearing a Boston Celtics jersey robbed the same location of an undisclosed amount of money.

In the latest case, La Mesa police officers responded about 10:12 p.m. to the motel south of Interstate 8 in west La Mesa, according to a news release.

“The Motel 6 clerk reported that two suspects entered the motel lobby armed with handguns,” police said.  “Suspect #1 pointed a black revolver at the clerk and demanded the money from the register.  The clerk pulled out the entire cash drawer from the register and handed it to Suspect #1.”

Both men were last seen running east on Alvarado Road with the cash register drawer and an undetermined amount of money, police said.

The clerk was not hurt, and the unknown gunmen were not found.

Police said the robbers were described thusly:

Suspect #1:  Black male, 20-25 years, 6 feet 2, 215 pounds, wearing a dark gray sweatshirt and gray pants. The man also was wearing a dark colored nylon mask and was armed with a black revolver.

Suspect #2:  Black or Hispanic male, 25-30 years, 5-10, 160-180 pounds, wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, black pants and a black baseball cap with a red design on it.  He was armed with a black semi-automatic handgun.
