Girl, 2, Darts into Traffic, Suffers Minor Injuries on Normal Avenue

Driver of Ford F-150 pickup stopped after hitting girl near La Mesa Boulevard, wasn't cited.

A 2-year-old girl suffered minor scrapes and bumps Tuesday afternoon when she was struck by a Ford F150 pickup truck in the 7600 block of Normal Avenue near its terminus at La Mesa Boulevard, police said.

The girl was taken to Rady Children’s Hospital about 10 or 15 minutes after the 4 p.m. accident as a precaution, said police Lt. Dan Willis.

He said she apparently darted into traffic from an apartment nearby. But he wasn’t sure where her parents were at the time.

The male driver of the Ford pickup immediately stopped to give aid, and wasn’t cited in the incident, Willis said. His hometown wasn’t immediately known.

Meanwhile, he said, a possible hit-and-run case that left a 2-year-old boy seriously injured in August on Fletcher Parkway, has gone to the District Attorney’s Office.

The DA’s office has yet to decide what charges to bring or whether to bring charges in the Aug. 25 nighttime case involving a Volkswagen Passat station wagon, he said.

Police Sgt. Pete Andersson said Monday: “We do feel we have a case of having identified the driver in that hit and run case.  We did not make an arrest, but have forwarded the case to the DA’s office for their review.  We have not heard anything back from the DA as of today.  We can’t release the suspect’s information at this time, as they were not arrested.”
