Gas Station Near Grossmont High School Robbed by — 70-Year-Old?

Gray-haired man stimulates gun at ARCO station on Murray Drive, police say.

A man thought to be about 70 years old robbed the ARCO gas station a few blocks west of Grossmont High School early Friday morning, police said.

The man used his hand in his jacket pocket to simulate a gun as he held up the ARCO station at 9600 Murray Drive about 3:40 a.m., according to La Mesa police.

“The [man] threatened to shoot the clerk if he moved and then ran out of the store,” said a press release.  “The suspect was last seen running westbound through the parking lot with an undetermined amount of money.  The suspect has not been found and there were no injuries reported.”

In addition to being about 70 years old, the robber was described as white, 5 feet 7 inches tall and 160 pounds, with short gray hair and a gray mustache.

He wore a black baseball cap with the letters,  "USA'' on the front and a tan jacket, police said.
