Former Helix Football Player Arrested in Mini-Mart Robbery with Scissors

Tracy Odom, 39, is being held on $100,000 bail in connection with July 9 robbery on Spring Street.

Police say that when a masked Tracy L. Odom of La Mesa threatened a convenience store clerk with a pair of scissors and made off with a metal cash box July 9, Odom knew what he was after.

He used to work at the store, according to the La Mesa Police Department.

Odom, 39, was arrested Thursday in the of the ARCO AM/PM   mini market at 4925 Spring St.

“The suspect ran away westbound from the store with a metal cash box containing petty cash,” police said of the original incident at 1:40 a.m. “The cash box, mask and latex gloves were recovered along with a pair of scissors.”

Odom was charged with one count of armed robbery and booked into County Jail, police said.

According to court records, Odom is being held on $100,000 bail and his arraignment is set for 1:30 p.m. Monday, July 30, in East County Superior Court.

A Helix High School alumni site lists a Tracy Odom as a 1991 graduate of the La Mesa school and another online story says he played football for the Scotties in 1989.
