A wildfire on a Lakeside-area hillside today briefly threatened homes until crews gained the upper hand on the flames.
The non-injury blaze erupted shortly before 5 p.m. off Olde Highway 80, near Amelia Drive in Lakeside, and prompted officials to urge more than 1,300 area households to evacuate as the flames moved toward mobile homes and other residences.

Evacuated residents were allowed to head home around 7:30 p.m. and the temporary evacuation site at El Capitan High School was shut down, according to sheriff's officials.
No structural damage was reported.
