Family Speaks Out About Sudden Loss of Son in Tree Branch Accident

Relatives described Pudsey as a jack of all trades who had been through some ups and downs.

A 41-year-old Lakeside man killed Tuesday in a tree-trimming accident in La Mesa was a gentle giant who was engaged to be married in May, according to an NBC San Diego report.

Joshua Pudsey was in a cherry picker trimming a eucalyptus tree at 4450 Date Ave. about 8:30 a.m. Tuesday when he was hit on the head with a branch and fatally injured. He died at the scene.

Pudsey's mother, Debbi Anderson, told NBC's Rory Devine that she spoke with her only child before he left for the job and told him it could to be a "magical day." Tuesday's date was 11/12/13. She said she also told him to be careful.

Family described Pudsey as a jack of all trades who had been through some ups and downs, but was on the right track. They said he was working for a real estate company that specialized in flipping houses, was in love and had a wedding date set in the spring.

Cal/OSHA is investigating the incident.
