Overnight DUI Checkpoint Nets 1 Arrest

La Mesa police stop drivers on 70th Street for six hours, issuing citations and impounding vehicles.

A DUI and driver’s license checkpoint in the 4700 block of 70th Street Friday night resulted in one driver arrested for suspicion of DUI and six vehicles impounded for driver’s license violations, according to La Mesa police.

Officers stopped vehicles for six hours, checking driver’s licenses and looking for signs of impairment. According to Sgt. Peter Andersson:

  • 374 vehicles traveled through the checkpoint.
  • 23 drivers were taken into the secondary inspection area.
  • Six drivers were further evaluated for driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.
  • One driver was arrested for DUI
  • 13 citations were issued for vehicle code violations.
  • Six vehicles were impounded for driver license violations.

“This checkpoint is another reminder from the La Mesa Police Department that driving under the influence of alcohol and driving without a license will not be tolerated,” Anderson said.
