UPDATE: No One Hurt in La Mesa Garage Fire on Tuesday Morning

It is the second fire in less than a week in La Mesa.

UPDATE: Tuesday, 3 p.m.

The blaze at a home in the 4300 block of Gordon Way in La Mesa erupted about 8:30 a.m., said Sonny Saghera, a spokesman for Heartland Fire & Rescue.

The only person in the house at the time, a young man, was able to get out safely, according to Saghera. Firefighters found a dog and a cat inside the residence and carried them out unscathed.

It took crews about 15 minutes to contain the flames to the attached garage, which contained no vehicles. The living quarters of the home sustained "minimal" smoke damage, Saghera said.

The cause of the blaze remained under investigation in the mid-afternoon. Damage to the structure is estimated to be $75,000.

A fire damaged a residential garage in La Mesa Tuesday morning. The noninjury fire at 4336 Gordon Way was reported just before 8:30 a.m. and put out by 8:50 a.m., according to a Heartland fire dispatcher.
