Child Porn Charges Filed Against Youth Hockey Coach

Gregory Eagles is a coach of the San Diego Saints Traveling Hockey program at the Joan Kroc Center and was arraigned Monday for trading child pornography online.

A 54-year-old youth ice hockey coach accused of trading child pornography online pleaded not guilty Monday at the downtown courthouse.

Gregory Eagles was arrested at his home in Chula Vista on Sept. 30 and posted $75,000 bail the next day.

A Navy veteran-turned-Navy contractor, Eagles underwent three extensive background checks to become a parent-volunteer coach at the Joan Kroc Center at 6845 University Ave. in San Diego near La Mesa, according to 10News. He is married with children and has been with the San Diego Saints Traveling Hockey program for more than two years, the station reported.

Eagles was arrested by the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, a coalition of various law enforcement agencies.

Judge Laura Alksne ordered Eagles to have no contact with minors other than his own children. The defendant faces five years in prison if convicted.

A readiness conference was scheduled for Nov. 18 and a preliminary hearing for Dec. 3.
