Burglary Suspect Found Dead in Sweetwater Reservoir

The man had apparently jumped into the reservoir to escape deputies, authorities said.

A sheriff's dive team found the body of a burglary suspect in the Sweetwater Reservoir in Spring Valley Tuesday night after he apparently tried to escape deputies by jumping into the reservoir, authorities said.

San Diego County Sheriff's Sgt. David Pocklington said a homeowner reported a burglary in the 9000 block of Camino Lago Vista, which is a few blocks from the Sweetwater Reservoir, after 3 p.m. Tuesday. Pocklington said the homeowner fled and called 911 after a struggle ensued between him and the suspect.

Both the homeowner and witnesses saw the suspect flee into the reservoir and described his behavior as “irrational” and “bizarre,” Pocklington said.
