Boys Flee Screams, Are Arrested in ‘Hot Prowl’ at Lake Park Condos

Teens knocked on woman's door, but she didn't respond. One boy tried to enter through window but fled; one had a loaded gun, police say.

Two La Mesa teen-agers were arrested Wednesday night after a “hot prowl” report at the Lake Park Condominiums in the 5700 block of Baltimore Drive, police said.

“About 3:57 p.m., the La Mesa Police Department received a 911 call from a resident at [the] large condominium complex,” said a police news release.

A female resident told police that two black males knocked on her front door for several minutes.

She didn’t answer because she did not recognize them, she said.

“A short time later, the resident heard her kitchen window screen being removed and saw one of males begin to enter through the window,” police said.  “The resident yelled out and the suspect fled the scene.”

La Mesa police and the San Diego Sheriff’s Department ASTREA helicopter responded to the area to search for the suspects, police said.

“A short time later, two juveniles, 16 and 17 years old … were detained a few blocks away,” police said.  “They were confirmed to be the burglary suspects and also possessed a loaded, concealed, stolen handgun from another recent La Mesa residential burglary.”

Both suspects were taken to Juvenile Hall and will be charged with burglary and possession of stolen property.  The 16-year-old was also charged with possession of a loaded concealed gun.
