Sprinkler System Mistaken for Bomb at La Mesita Park

Part of a sprinkler system mistaken for a suspicious device brought police and the sheriff's Bomb & Arson Unit to La Mesita Park Monday, according to La Mesa Police Department Lt. Chad Bell.

The moisture sensor on the lawn at 8855 Dallas St. prompted a citizen to call 911 around 4:15 p.m.

"It looked like it was partially pulled out of the lawn with some wires exposed and our officers hadn't seen it before so the sheriff's Bomb & Arson was called," Bell said.

Police and the sheriff's Bomb & Arson Unit cleared out of the park around 5:30 p.m. without the use of any explosives to neutralize a potentially suspicious device, Bell said.
