Two young children were rescued from a hot car in La Mesa Thursday after witnesses got one of them to unlock the vehicle.

Firefighters responded around 12:30 p.m. to the parking lot of 5500 Grossmont Center Drive after getting a report that the children—one 4 years old and the other 9 months old—were locked inside the car, said Sonny Saghera of Heartland Fire & Rescue.

"The vehicle was not running and there was no adult supervision nearby," he said.

Bystanders got the older child to unlock the vehicle before rescue crews arrived, Saghera said.

"The mother of the children arrived at the car and stated she had been gone for only five minutes," he said.

Paramedics examined the children and released them to the custody of their father, Saghera said.

It was unclear if the children's mother was arrested.

Its sad, but it appears young adults or even people today don't want to be responsible for their bad decisions. For a few weeks ago on "Nancy Grace HLN TV she been reviewing how a father and possibly mother killed their child with "criminal intent". 30 years ago, the air quality, temperatures and society was somewhat different. Yes, they always had ill responsible parents, but this people are lazy. If you wouldn't take you kid to the store, don't plan on laving them. They have various types of contraceptive. If you have kids i.e. children, parents should act responsible and caring. Not treat them like a bag of dry goods that can be placed in a hot or cold car so they can "Take Care of Their Personal Business".

She should be arrested for child endangerment.

So sad, that this happens again and again. It is hard to shop with children, I remember, when mine were this age, but no shortcut here. Even if it is a one minute business, so be it: still have to take them with us.
