Authorities Seek Public Help in Finding Spring Valley Hit-and-Run Motorist

Robert Diaz, 52, of Spring Valley was struck by a car while riding his bike, suffering major injuries, including a broken leg and ribs and a punctured lung.

Authorities sought the public's help Tuesday in tracking down a hit-and-run motorist who seriously injured a cyclist in the La Presa neighborhood of Spring Valley

Robert Diaz, 52, of Spring Valley was riding his mountain bike east on San Francisco Street around 8:20 p.m. April 19 when he was struck as he crossed Maria Avenue. He failed to stop for a stop sign and rode directly into the path of an oncoming pickup traveling northbound on Maria Avenue, said California Highway Patrol Officer Brian Pennings.

The motorist applied his brakes but was unable to avoid striking Diaz, Pennings said, leaving the cyclist with major injuries, including a broken right leg, punctured lung, broken ribs and a laceration to his head.
