Medics took Scharr to a hospital for treatment of a fractured pelvis and other serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Witnesses described the hit-and-run driver's vehicle as a red two-door sedan with four circular taillights and white-and-blue license plates, possibly from out of state. It likely sustained visible right-side damage in the crash, Pennings said.
