Authorities are asking the public for help in identifying a motorist who fled the scene of an East County traffic accident on Tuesday, that left a 33-year-old motorcyclist seriously injured.
William Scharr II of San Diego was riding his 2009 Harley-Davidson to the east on Jamacha Road in Spring Valley when the driver of an oncoming car made a left turn directly in his path near Elkelton Boulevard about 3:30 p.m. Oct. 24, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Following the collision, the motorist accelerated through a nearby parking lot and then sped off to the south, CHP public-affairs Officer Brian Pennings said.
Medics took Scharr to a hospital for treatment of a fractured pelvis and other serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
Witnesses described the hit-and-run driver's vehicle as a red two-door sedan with four circular taillights and white-and-blue license plates, possibly from out of state. It likely sustained visible right-side damage in the crash, Pennings said.
Investigators have no description of the motorist.
Anyone with information about the accident was asked to call the CHP's El Cajon-area office at (619) 401-2000.
