An allegedly combative burglary suspect was forcibly arrested Wednesday following a break-in at a house in a neighborhood near Sweetwater Reservoir.

A deputy responding to home-invasion alarm shortly before 8:30 a.m. found the front door of the residence in the 1000 block of Fairhill Terrace in Spring Valley forced open and saw gun cartridges scattered inside, sheriff's Lt. Dave Schaller said.

A young man—later identified as 18-year-old Nino Sanchez—then ran down a stairway in the house, and the lawman ordered him to halt and get onto the floor, the lieutenant said. Sanchez allegedly refused to comply and bolted out a back door, pulling a pistol from his waistband and hurling it away as he fled.

The deputy caught up to the suspect behind the home and had to use an electric stun gun to subdue him during an ensuing struggle, Schaller said.

Sanchez was taken to Sharp Grossmont Hospital for an evaluation. Following the medical screening, he was expected to be booked into San Diego Central Jail on suspicion of residential burglary and resisting arrest.
