A suspect armed with a handgun robbed a 7-11 located  in La Mesa, police said Friday morning.

Early Friday morning, at about 4:08AM, the La Mesa Police Department received a report of a robbery that had just occurred at the 7-11 located at 5746 Amaya Drive.

An employee reported that the suspect entered the store, approached the counter and pointed a handgun at the clerk. The suspect then announced that he was robbing the store and demanded cash.

The clerk gave the suspect money from the register. The suspect fled northbound on Howell Drive on foot. The employee was not injured, according to police.

The suspect is described as a white male, 25-40 years old, 5’6” to 5’8” tall, wearing a dark blue “hoodie” sweatshirt and dark blue jeans. The suspect was also described as either carrying or wearing a dark blue scarf.

If you have any information on this case, please call the La Mesa Police Department at (619) 667-1400.

In April 2011, a clerk at the same 7-Eleven was injured in a scuffle with a customer, when the customer apparently tried to walk out without paying for cigarettes.

We had similar experiences with a 7 eleven that closed a couple of months ago at Spring st. (near 94 fwy). This is the reason we are fighting it from coming back at this moment. Unfortunately, city zoning laws protect businesses like this and leave citizens on their own to fight them.

7 eleven: the new ATM for La Mesa scum

The 7-11 on Palm Ave and Spring was robbed pretty much every week. I used to live very close to it. I don't really blame the presence of 7-11s for crime. I live very close to another one here in Lake Murray now and it's quite quiet. The area over by Palm/Spring has just been getting worse and worse. I've had to call the cops so many times while I lived there.

So let me get this right, it's the 7/11's fault that some people are are thieves hmmmm. I happen to know the owners of this small business and they are just like every other small business owner, struggling to succeed in a market filled with idiots who think they should get everything for free while those around them feel they should blame everyone else for the faults of the public. It's the fault of the 7/11 for the crime spree, no it's the fault of the person who opted to rob the store. Place the blame where it truly needs to be placed. While I am sure there are some bad stores in many neighborhoods I will gladly and very proudly stand behind the owners of the 7/11 in MY neighborhood on Amaya and Howell. The owners whose son just graduated from Grossmont high school. The owners who have not only donated money to OUR community but have PARTICIPATED in our community and WITH our community and our children in order to better our children. The owners who believe that it takes a village to raise a family and who know most of the children and the parents in our neighborhood because they have been so proactive in our neighborhood so when they see a child doing something they should not be doing they are able to say something to the parents.

Good point, Linda.

Yep yep yep we're all on the same page here. It's not the owners being attacked, it's the unfortunate temptation that 7 elevens create for those people in our community that think it's ok to steal from a store. I don't understand that element in our society. Didn't anyone ever teach these folks that stealing is wrong? I mean if you don't want folks stealing from you, then don't steal from others. Imagine if everyone stopped stealing....it could very easily happen ya know!

And who the hell is Sally?

Wow! I guess Sally deleted her comments. That's unfortunate. Everyone has a right to express themselves here. I hope, Sally, that you continue to comment on Patch. Not all threads get this nasty.

Thanks Deena, I got here late. I'm with you, Sally should not be deterred even if she is faced with someone who has an inordinate amount of interest in 7/11 and a lot of time on her hands.

Who are you talking to Eric? You deleted my comment asking who Sally was? Then leave the eight part Tolstoyesque diatribe ? What's up with that?

Sorry Kevin as my comments would make no sense to you without the other comments. I ummmmm got a bit heated I guess you could say.... And I became even more upset this morning when I heard this specific site mentioned along with comments that were stated as facts that were not facts while in their store. As a small business owner myself, to have GQ public state that a persons store is known for robberies it tends to scare those who are elderly, it did this. Also, as a small business owner myself I have been blamed for those who have robbed me, ironically my robbers are moms, their forms of theft closed bank accounts and counterfeit money many police officers have difficulty telling if it is counterfeit or not. It is not often you have a convenience store that is an active member of a community but we actually have one here. I don't think that this should give the owners special brownie points but I do believe that they do not deserve to have lies spread about them and unfortunately there was definitely a fact stated that was not correct and in fact was actually harmful to the owners of the store in question. So I do apologize for being a tad hot under the collar, I wish more people would think before they posted fact, incorrect fact can ruin a good business. Stating fact is different than stating opinion. When you state a fact incorrectly an apology goes a long way. I myself will try not to "YELL" anymore...and will try to remain calm...

Jesus, 7/11 is now trying to open up a 24hr magnet for crime, robberies, and pan handling in the Lake Murray/Dallas area. I am interested in fighting it as you have done on Spring St. Please let me know how I can speak to you, in order to see how you have organized. Thanks
