Suspects, 16 and 17, were found by detective after report of home break-in on Urban Drive.

Updated at 2:50 a.m. Thursday

Three San Diego teens were detained Tuesday as suspects in at least three home burglaries in the neighborhood of the Amaya Trolley Station, police said Wednesday morning.

About 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, La Mesa officers responded to a radio call of a possible home being broken into by several subjects in the 5600 block of Urban Drive west of Grossmont High School, police said.

“The initial report was called in by a neighbor who thought the teens were behaving suspiciously,” police said.  “The suspects were described as three black male juveniles and were seen walking away from one of the homes.”

A police detective, who was in the area, found the three nearby—ages 16 and 17—and detained them, police said.

“The suspects were subsequently found to be in possession of several items of stolen property.  The suspects were arrested, and the investigation has tied all three suspects to at least three residential burglaries in La Mesa,” police said.

The San Diego Union-Tribune reported that the teenagers were found with stolen jewelry and identification cards. One tried to hide jewelry in a bush, the paper said.
