The defendants—wearing ski masks—vaulted over the teller counter and demanded money from two tellers at gunpoint.

In response to their demands, the tellers handed the robbers $9,500, including several bait bills.

The robbers fled in a black Chevrolet Monte Carlo, which was found and pursued by law enforcement.

Lasker and Darden were arrested later after a yard-by-yard search of the area.
At the time of the robbery, the defendants were enlisted in the Marine Corps and stationed at MCAS Miramar.
