2 Arrested at Checkpoint on Jackson Drive

Saturday night checkpoint screened 131 drivers for impairment and other violations.

A DUI checkpoint in the 5900 block of Jackson Drive Saturday night resulted in two drivers arrested for suspicion of DUI, La Mesa police said.

The checkpoint was scheduled to start at 9 p.m. and operated for six hours, according to Sgt. Peter Andersson. Officers screened drivers, checking licenses and looking for signs of impairment.

According to a police report:

  • 131 vehicles drove through the checkpoint.
  • 10 drivers were sent to a secondary-inspection area.
  • Four drivers were given field sobriety tests.
  • Two drivers were arrested for suspicion of DUI.
  • Two citations were issued for vehicle code violations.
  • Two vehicles were impounded for driver’s license violations.

The checkpoint was part of Drunk Driving. Over the Limit. Under Arrest., a national crackdown led by the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration. The detail was funded by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the NHTSA.
