10 Cars Impounded, One Driver Arrested in Courthouse Sting

La Mesa police sought people driving with suspended licenses in 2 1/2-hour El Cajon operation.

Ten visitors to the East County courthouse in El Cajon lost their cars and one person was arrested on a drunken driving charge Thursday,  said La Mesa police after a 2½-hour sting operation.

“Our main focus was to identify those drivers who continue to drive even after having their license suspended as the result of a prior DUI arrest,” said a police news release.

Some 191 subjects were contacted and 10 of them were found to be driving on a suspended or revoked license, police said.

“All of them were issued a citation and their cars were impounded and then placed on a hold due to the driver having a suspended license,” police said.  “One subject was arrested for driving while under the influence.”

Funding for the program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
