Who is La Mesa’s Person of the Year?

Why Let Time Have All the Fun? This poll is in two parts: Nominate your Person of the Year and we’ll have a runoff next month.

On Dec. 14, Time magazine will announce its Person of the Year—which isn’t guaranteed to be an actual man or woman. But in the run-up, the magazine has invited votes on 40 candidates, including Barack Obama, Gabby Douglas and Kim Jong Un. Other options include The Mars Rover and the Higgs Boson Particle. But who cares about the same-old same-old? Who is La Mesa, Mount Helix or Spring Valley’s Person of the Year—the man or woman who, in Timespeak, “most influenced the news this year for better or worse”? We won’t preselect your picks. But the ones most often mentioned in the comments (and tell us why) will have a runoff in a month.

I'd like to nominate the La Mesa Citizen's Oversight Group. I think it offers a much-needed perspective on issues in La Mesa by cutting through superfluous information and presenting the bare bones. That pared-down information is incredibly helpful when choosing a stance on the city's options.

Thanks, Kyla.

Art for Person of the year? Wasn't Hitler, Osama Bin Laden and Khomeini also men of the year? Sounds right to me.

So true, Deena. When I challenged lamesatoday.com editor, Chris Lavin, about the threats and damage Art had done to local businesses, he waved a dismissive hand and said, "Hey, politicians do those things. So what?"
Nice to have the fourth estate looking out for the people, eh?

Ruth Sterling for La Mesa's Person of the Year! She has served the people of La Mesa honorably and faithfully for 20 years and has, once again, overcome attempts by the Mayor, backing three others, to get her voted off the City Council.
Kevin George December 7, 2012 at 06:06 pm
I'll second that! A great suggestion Janet.
Deena While December 7, 2012 at 08:55 pm
Yep Yep Yep Ruth Sterling for sure!

It was the first of its kind to supply full daily news broadcasts. The company's 24-hour coverageRead More became an immediate success and helped to launch their company from a mainly US-based platform to a world-wide sensation. It was also the first company in the US to firmly provide news coverage.Being one of the most popular sources for news in all of US history. has now gone online, and is one of the top news sites on the internet, available to subscribers world wide instantly through a web browser. While most of these organizations still report quality news, the internet has spawned a number of sites that comment more than report current news. Other sites have emerged to consolidate the top news. People should do some research before relying too much on a single service.

I heard that the landlord is using that property as a loss and does not care about renters. LooksRead More to me like it could be true. I also heard that a group from Mt Helix is trying to clean up Casa De Oro. Does anyone know for sure?
