Street, Sidewalk Upgrades Help La Mesa Intersection

Resident writes of the the intersection at Palm and Allison, "The traffic calming bump outs and the redirecting of the street runoff through the "creek" to filter out contaminants was a great move."

I would like to commend the City of La Mesa with the street and sidewalk upgrades to the corner of Palm and Allison. The traffic calming bump outs and the redirecting of the street runoff through the "creek" to filter out contaminants was a great move.

This redirection of the runoff, from what I understand, was to trap the contaminants in the "creek" bed, thus reducing some portion of the debris that would make it to the underground storm drain. I can tell you that from my personal observation, the system works vey well.

Regularly, I like to do my part in the clean up of La Mesa by picking up litter, and I have informally adopted this corner (which is near my office). Some of the city funds for cleaning of the underground storm drains must have been transfered to an effort to keep the "creek" bed are clean and sightly. To eliminate duplication of effort, I would like to coordinate my effort of clean up with the responsible city department or contractor.
