Police Chief Ed Aceves is 'Kind, Warm and Informative'

Judith Carson: "All of the officers were friendly and kind. These people work hard for us and I, for one, really appreciated him taking the time to talk to us."

So often we hear negative things regarding our government here in La Mesa. But I would like to tell you about a positive experience.

A few months ago we had a terrible shooting in our neighborhood in Lake Murray. Then around the same time we had some purse snatchings that were disturbing at Grossmont Center. I contacted our Chief of Police, Ed Aceves, via e-mail regarding these matters. I never expected to hear anything back. I suppose I was just upset and wanted to express that.

Well to my surprise, I did hear from Chief Aceves. He called me and suggested that the neighbors in our neighborhood might benefit from a meeting with him.

On January 11th, we held such a meeting. Chief Aceves and three other officers from the La Mesa Police Department came and talked about these matters with a group of about 15 people.

I grew up in La Mesa. I lived on the same street with a former Chief of Police (many years ago). I never found him approachable. But Chief Aceves was kind, warm and informative. He is very open and has a great desire to meet the needs of our community. I wish more things were said about this kind of person in our City.

Perhaps you could begin to profile some of the people who serve this community and try so hard to make La Mesa a better place. I think the people who gathered at our meeting found some answers to their questions and got to know the police a little better.

Chief Aceves gave us tips on how to keep ourselves safe, offered suggestions on how important it is to report anything suspicious that we might notice, and answered any questions that we had. All of the officers were friendly and kind. These people work hard for us and I, for one, really appreciated him taking the time to talk to us.
