Direct Knowledge of a Grand Jury Investigation of GUHSD

Doug Deane: "I have seen correspondence between the Grand Jury and one of those who are being called to testify."

To the editor:

GUHSD Trustee [Jim] Kelly recently stated that the assertion by Trustee [Priscilla] Schreiber that there is a Grand Jury investigation into the use of Propositions H & U bond funds by the district is bogus.

Kelly was quoted as saying that it is “an old political trick to have your surrogates demand an investigation of your political opponent, right before an election, and then go to the media and announce that your opponent is under investigation.”

I believe that what Trustee Kelly is saying is that Trustee Schreiber concocted the story about a Grand Jury investigation in order to affect the upcoming election results.

I have direct knowledge that there is indeed a Grand Jury investigation, and I have seen correspondence between the Grand Jury and one of those who are being called to testify.

That person was asked to appear at the Grand Jury Room in mid-November.

Grand Jury witnesses are asked in advance not to make any announcements concerning the fact that they have been asked to testify.

It is my belief (and my belief only) that Trustee Schreiber has already been asked to testify, but she cannot say so because of voluntary confidentiality restrictions placed on her by the Grand Jury.

I would also not be surprised to learn that other GUHSD Trustees will be appearing before the Grand Jury.

Sincerely,

Doug Deane
