Bill Davis, a longtime East County educator and administrator, who served as Grossmont High School principal from 1976-86, died on Jan. 14 at UCSD Hospital after battling illness. He was 83.
Davis also served as, GHS Vice Principal from 1966-70, El Capitan Principal from 1970-75, and he was Grossmont alumnus, Class of 1948.
Davis was also a football coach for Granite Hills High School in the mid-60s, and was named Grossmont League Football Coach of the Year in 1964. He also played football for San Diego State, earning three varsity letters.
After leaving Grossmont in 1986, Bill became Grossmont Union High School District Director of Student Services, where he focused on programs designed to identify and assist high-risk students to graduate.
After his retirement in 1989, Bill enjoyed golfing, traveling, following his SDSU football and basketball teams, and especially spending time with his family and many lifelong friends.
Bill is preceded in death by his first wife Adele, and their two sons Douglas and Kenneth. He is survived by his second wife, Sharon Galvin.
A Celebration of Life / memorial service for Bill Davis will be held Monday, January 28, at 1:30 p.m. at Foothills United Methodist Church, 4031 Avocado Blvd. (The church phone number is 619-670-4009.)
