'There's No Place Like Grossmont' Homecoming Celebration Has Something For Everyone!

Grossmont High School Homecoming is September 21! Read about the activities for GHS alumni, families, current students and future Foothillers. Join in the fun!

Thousands of Grossmont High School alumni and current students agree: "There's no place like Grossmont," which is the theme for this year's Homecoming celebation on Friday, September 21.  The school and its Educational Foundation invites all Foothillers and their families -- past, present, and future, to follow the yellow brick road to an all-community celebration, Oz-style.  There will be plenty of activities for Foothillers of all ages, including a carnival, food truck festival, special alumni events, the half-time show and of, course, the big game that begins at 7:00 p.m.

The carnival begins at 4:00 p.m. on the upper quad, and features a dunk tank, bounce obstacle course, cake walk, and many different games, for kids of all ages. Admission is free; individual tickets for the games may be purchased on site.  Alumni and anyone interested in the school's rich history is invited to visit the GHS Museum from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m., and participate in the dedication of the three new benches purchased by the Classes of 1961, 1965, and 1966, as well as the two new bronze plaques commemorating the Jack Mashin Stadium and the Historic Ivy.

The upper quad also features a food truck festival, where diners can choose between many of San Diego’s top gourmet food trucks, including MIHO Gastrotruck (GHS alum-run!), San Diego Street Eats, Devilicious, and Super Q Barbecue!  The food, music, and scenery (courtesy of the Grossmont ASB students who, each year, wrap the entire old gym from head-to-toe in colorful panels that celebrate the theme) will be fantastic, and part of the proceeds benefit Grossmont via the GHS Educational Foundation.

The half-time show will feature hundreds of GHS students in choreographed dances and skits, as well as the crowning of the Homecoming Queen, a tradition that began in 1947.  The crowning of the Homecoming King takes place later, at the Homecoming dance on campus.  Parents and alumni over the age of 21 will have a post-Homecoming celebration of their own at Anthony's La Mesa, beginning at 7:30 p.m. and lasting throughout the evening to provide a continued opportunity for re-connecting and reminiscing.
