Visionary Dance Theatre presents "72nd Street Blues"

Come on down to Visionary Dance Theatre's new performance space on the corner of 72nd Street and El Cajon Boulevard in San Diego(7202 El Cajon Blvd, San Diego, 92115) as we celebrate our new space and the opening of our 4th Season.

Visionary Dance Theatre welcomes International Choreographer Jeanne Travers from Tampa FL. She sets her acclaimed work “Into Mergence” on the company. Post it's Italy and China run, Travers and Visionary Dance Theatre is proud to present the California debut of this work.

Visionary Dance Theatre also hosts local choreographer Lavina Rich as she creates a new solo work for Visionary Dance Theatre's Artistic Director Spencer John Powell. This is one of Powell's rare moments as he steps on the stage to perform.

Spencer John Powell will also re-stage his 1989 award-winning work “Kaffir”. The term “Kaffir” is a slang insult directed at South African Blacks. This work is about the past prison house of Apartheid. When the work was created, Apartheid was alive and Nelson Mandela was still a year away from being released from prison.

Visionary Dance Theatre also premieres a new work titled “My Baby, My Money, My Blues”. This work features some of today great Blues Singers, such as Keb' Mo, T-Bone Walker, Buddy Guy, Sharon Jones and Ruthie Foster to names a few. This work takes a fusion of Dance Genres(Modern Dance, Ballet, Jazz and Social Dance) to new levels. If you love Blues Music and some high-energy dancing, then this is the concert for you.
