Just nine days after announcing his intentions to run for state assembly, La Mesa councilman Dave Allen dropped out of the race, citing a desire to spend more time with his ailing father.

In a tragic, fast-spreading house fire last week in Spring Valley, one man was killed after being unable to exit the premesis in time. The family of the victim identified him as Jim Neiswonger, and told Mount Helix Patch that it is still unknown how and why the fire started. They also declined to comment further, staying that they are still grieving their loss.

Another tragic tale occurred over the weekend, as a pedestrian was struck and killed near on Saturday night.
