Less Traffic? Fletcher Parkway Could See Traffic Signal Improvements

Patch media partner the La Mesa Courier reports on a $529,000 grant that would allow better timing of lights on the busiest traffic corridor in town.

Traffic signal improvements could be coming to one of La Mesa's most important roads if the federal government approves the city's grant application.

Almost all of the city's traffic signals are connected by fiber optic cable to City Hall offices, but the existing "multi mode" cable that connects the traffic signals on Fletcher Parkway to city offices is an outdated technology that hampers the city's ability to manage traffic, a report from city staff says.

The City Council voted last week to apply for a $592,000 grant from the federal Highway Safety Improvement Program to install a "single mode" fiber optic cable from City Hall to Dallas Street along Baltimore Drive and Fletcher Parkway.
