Jazz Legend Poncho Sanchez to Honor East County Music Students

Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award winner Poncho Sanchez is coming to the East County to celebrate the Grossmont Union High School District Honor Jazz Band students. Helix Charter High School Associate Band Director, Mike Benge, is a professional jazz musician and a member of the popular San Diego-based band B-Side Players. Having played with many well-known musicians, Benge thought it would be a great experience for the students if he were able to meld his professional musician life with his teaching life. As a result, the Honor Jazz Band students will have the opportunity of a lifetime, as Sanchez will serve as a guest artist during their concert on Saturday, June 1 at West Hills High School at 7:00 pm. Sanchez and his 9-piece Latin Jazz Band will also put on an all-ages concert on Friday, May 31 at West Hills at 7:00 pm. Tickets are $20 for Friday and $10 for Saturday.
