Murray Manor Mustangs Walk and Roll to School

Murray Manor Elementary joined with other La Mesa schools for the kickoff of the Safe Routes to School Walk and Roll program.

Murray Manor Elementary joined with other La Mesa schools for the kickoff of the Safe Routes to School Walk and Roll program.  This program works to promote healthy walking or biking to local schools while raising both student and adult driver awareness of traffic, bicycle, and pedestrian safety.

Groups of children and parents approached from neighboring streets and were carefully guided across the roads by well coordinated teams of staff, student safety patrol, community volunteers, and La Mesa Police.  Students participating in the program will be entered into a raffle for prizes.

As an added treat, some of the children were filmed by the County of San Diego for a video feature on the Walk and Roll program.

Upon arriving at school, the students gathered for a morning pledge of allegiance and peace circle.  The children also learned that the schools morning run for fun fitness program would be starting this week.  This year’s theme will be “The Great Wall of China” with a goal of the children running and walking a total of 5,500 miles.
