Two People Escape Burning Car in La Mesa

Firefighters responded to a car fire in La Mesa and found the vehicle's engine engulfed in flames.

Two people had escaped before a Toyota Corolla bursted into flames early Thursday morning, according to 10news.

The incident occurred around 1:45 a.m. on the 4300 block of Calavo Drive in La Mesa.

The driver told 10News, he noticed the lights on the dashboard started to blink and the vehicle began to stall. He pulled over and urged his friend to get out of the car.

Moments later the engine went up into flames and 911 was called by the occupants. Firefighters arrived and quickly extinguished the fire. 

Investigators are not sure what caused the engine fire, according to 10News.

The driver was involved in a minor car accident earlier which may have triggered the fire according to the 10News report.  

The car was a total loss but no injuries were reported.
