Spring Valley Man Arrested in Chula Vista Pot Bust

Steven Abbott, 26, was arrested for suspicion of marijuana cultivation.

A Spring Valley resident was one of two 26-year-old men jailed Saturday in connection with a illegal marijuana grow operation in which about 120 plants were seized, according to the Chula Vista Police Department.

The Chula Vista Police Department Narcotic Enforcement Team conducted surveillance at a business at 1031 Bay Blvd., Suite H, Friday after receiving a tip of a possible marijuana grow operation at the location, according to Chula Vista police Lt. Lon Turner.

Detectives conducted a probation compliance check at the business and discovered about 120 mature marijuana plants, Turner said.

Detectives arrested Steven Abbott, of Spring Valley, and Joseph Aon, of Jamul, who were seen as they left the business, Turner said.

Abbott was arrested for suspicion of cultivation of marijuana and Aon, who was on probation for felony marijuana cultivation, was arrested for suspicion of cultivation of marijuana and driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, according to Turner and jail records.

Both were booked into the San Diego Central Jail about 5:20 a.m. and were scheduled to be arraigned at the South Division Court in Chula Vista at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to jail records.
