SUV Rolls Over Bicyclist Seriously Injuring Rider in La Mesa

The incident occurred at 9:57 p.m., said La Mesa Police Lt. Ray Sweeney. The bicyclist crashed into the SUV and slid underneath it, officials said.

A 26-year-old man sustained serious injuries and was hospitalized after he lost control of his bicycle and struck a SUV near 70th Street and Alvarado Road just south of Interstate 8 Sunday.

The incident occurred at 9:57 p.m., said La Mesa Police Lt. Ray Sweeney.

"The bicyclist fell into the street as the car was turning and the car ran over him," Sweeney said.

The bicyclist crashed into the SUV and slid underneath it, officials said.

Sweeney said the bicyclist sustained serious facial injuries that were non-life threatening.

Emergency crews bandaged the man's head injuries before transporting him to a nearby hospital.

Police believe alcohol was a factor in the crash.

The cyclist was not identified.
