The shortened holiday week tends to bring with it very little in terms of news, and last week was no exception. Perhaps the biggest story emerging last week is that of the Grossmont Union High School District refinancing improvement bonds as a way to save the district and taxpayers more than $1.3 million.

Did you brave the crowds and darkness on Black Friday? The doorbusters sales may be long gone, but great deals are still available at most big box retailers. In that same vein, Cyber Monday has passed as well, but police warn that you should still be cautious when purchasing online, as scammers and identity thieves run rampant during the holiday season.

Three local high school football teams took to the gridiron over the weekend in pursuit of CIF Playoff glory. Unfortunately, only Helix was able to win their game, as the seasons of Grossmont and Mount Miguel came to an end.
