Otay Board Recall, Carrier Classic Coverage, and a Shout Out to the Veterans

At Mount Helix Patch, we know that in your busy lives there may be some stories that you can't read about the day they happen. With the "Week That Was" column, we'll provide a roundup of the most important stories of the week.

It was a relatively slow news week in Spring Valley and Mt. Helix, but not so much in San Diego, as evidenced by some of these stories. Dr. Conrad Murray, who once practiced medicine in San Diego before becoming the personal physician for the King of Pop, was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter in the June 2009 death of the music icon.

Based on rising rates, and a the passing controversial "lifetime benefits" for employees resolution passed earlier this summer, a local group is starting an effort to recall the members of the Otay Water District.

In prep sports news, Mount Miguel girls hoops star Shay Young has signed a letter of intent to play collegiately at New Mexico State University.

In an important local story, covered expertly by Coronado Patch, the North Carolina Tar Heels defeated the Michigan State Spartans in the first ever college basketball game played aboard an aircraft carrier. The USS Carl Vinson hosted the two powerhouse programs as part of Veterans Day. The game was attended by President Obama and the First Lady.
