The La Mesa City Council voted 3-1 last week not to adopt the proposed PBID for the downtown Village, instead opting to readdress the issue in July. Mayor Art Madrid was the lone vote who preferred to approve the PBID immediately into the ballot phase.

It was announced that six La Mesa police officers have been exonerated in the fatal shooting of Andrew Yacko, which occurred in August 2011. According to police chief Ed Aceves, Yacko allegedly threatened the officers with a 12-gauge shotgun, before being fired upon by police.

Russell Clilbraise III, the La Mesa man who was charged with committing lewd and lacivious acts with his 18-month son in a Vons bathroom, was closer to being released, after a mistrial was declared last Monday. Judge Joseph Brannigan said that the jury was "hopelessly deadlocked" and that no more deliberation would help them arrive at a verdict.

It was a bad birthday for one man, who was arrested on his birthday in connection with a robbery at Best Buy, which happened in November 2011.
