School Budget Fears, a Jewelry Store Robbery, and High School Sports Action

At Mount Helix Patch, we know that in your busy lives there may be some stories that you can't read about the day they happen. With the "Week That Was" column, we'll provide a roundup of the most important stories of the week.

At the most recent board meeting of the La Mesa-Spring Valley School District, it was announced that there will be five fewer days of school for the 2012-13 year, a result of a lower budget.

The Board also said that their budget is contingent on new tax measures that Governor Jerry Brown is proposing for the November ballot. If not approved, Brown said in a speech in San Diego earlier this week, there would be drastic cuts to the state's education budgets.

A Spring Valley man was sentenced to 26 years in prison after being convicted of first degree murder, stemming from a March 2011 fight that left one man dead.

No one was hurt last week when two youths robbed Del Rancho Jewelers in Rancho San Diego. A sign on the store's door on Friday said that no customers' jewelry was taken, and that the store has insurance.
