At Mount Helix Patch, we know that in your busy lives there may be some stories that you can't read about the day they happen. With the "Week That Was" column, we'll provide a roundup of the most important stories of the week.

The 2010 census data was release last week. Population was up in Spring Valley, and but down slightly in Casa de Oro-Mt. Helix. Population growth across San Diego County and the state of California increased by 10 percent.

The Water Conservation Garden welcomed two new residents, as a pair of barn owls inhabited a nesting box. The female, "Holla," has laid six eggs, which will hatch possibly as early as this week.

Months of planning and organizing will be rewarded on Tuesday when Spring Valley hosts its first Farmers Market. The market will run each Tuesday from 3-7 p.m. at the Spring Valley-East Communities Center.

State title dreams ended for the Mt. Miguel girls basketball team, as they were defeated in the semifinals of the CIF Regional tournament.
