The trial of Russell Cilbraise III, a La Mesa man accused of committing a lewd and lacivious act with his 18-month old son in a Vons bathroom, was the top ongoing story last week. An El Cajon bank robbery turned into a police standoff that lasted long into the evening on Friday. The suspect was surrounded in a house on Blue Lake Drive by dozens of police from La Mesa, El Cajon and San Diego. He eventually  surrendered peacfully.

A fire broke out in a Rancho San Diego home last week, when a cigar was not properly extinguished. No one was hurt in the fire, however the family's pet cat perished.

A La Mesa woman arrested on suspicion of burglary after police mistook her for someone else received a settlement from the city of San Diego, it was reported Wednesday. Deidria Nicholson, who filed a federal lawsuit against the city last year, was awarded $100K after spending 4 days in jail on a case of mistaken arrest.

The biggest fundraiser for the Helix Instrumental Music Association takes place Saturday. There's still time to pick up tickets and help the young musicians out.
