Brief Respite Before Next Storm, Arriving Late Wednesday

Observed conditions for Tuesday, March 22, 2011, from La Mesa Mesonet station. Forecast data from National Weather Service.

An upper-level low-pressure system approaching from the northwest will move through the region late Wednesday, with an increasing chance of light showers early Wednesday afternoon. Periods of moderate precipitation are expected late Wednesday afternoon and night as the cold front passes. Light showers will linger into Thursday. Local strong, gusty winds may accompany this system. Precipitation estimates are about a third to half an inch.

Wednesday forecast: Partly cloudy morning with increasing cloudiness midday and a daytime high near 61; rain likely by late afternoon. Calm wind becoming southwest between 5 and 10 mph. Rain overnight, tapering mainly before midnight, with a low around 48. Southwest wind between 5 and 10 mph.

Thursday forecast: Early morning light rain becoming partly sunny with a daytime high near 60. West wind between 5 and 10 mph with gusts as high as 20 mph. Mostly cloudy overnight with a low around 48.

Extended forecast: Mostly cloudy Friday with a daytime high near 62 and a 40 percent chance of rain, becoming partly cloudy overnight with a low around 47. Mostly sunny Saturday with a daytime high near 62, becoming partly cloudy overnight with a low around 47 and a renewed chance of rain.

Tuesday conditions: Early-morning light rain (0.01 inches), becoming partly cloudy with a daytime high of 59. Mostly clear overnight with a low around 43. West wind between 5 and 10 mph becoming calm.
